"I don’t think people recognize how much small interactions can make or break someone’s mental health process and healing.
"Wellbeing becomes possible when we aren’t in a frenzy or frozen. I think we can start to feel a sense of wellbeing when we can find meaning in the things that brought us here, make peace with our experiences, and incorporate the wisdom or learning that’s possible.”
Alyssa (she/her) is an ANCC-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Texas transplant who now joyfully resides in the lovely upper left U.S. She earned her master's degree in nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and has over 10 years of experience in healthcare, starting as a pharmacy technician and then working as an RN in both an inpatient chemical detox unit and a child and adolescent psychiatric unit.
Alyssa’s primary focus is working with child, adolescent, and young adult patients of all genders and sexualities. She has a wide range of experience treating conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, ADD/ADHD, sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Alyssa is gifted in working with Autistic youth and adults who have co-occurring mental health concerns. Her approach to treatment is holistic and patient-centered, valuing a collaborative exchange between herself and her patients to ensure they feel heard and understood.
Alyssa’s journey into mental health care was shaped by her own struggles with ADHD and anxiety during her academic years, as well as her early experiences with a psychiatric nurse practitioner who sincerely listened and helped her navigate her own mental health challenges. Her career path shifted from a plan to become an interpreter to working in healthcare as a pharmacy tech, all while earning a BS in Psychology. Alyssa’s work in the Pacific Northwest, starting in 2021, deepened her understanding of mental health medication management and allowed her to learn from patients who shared their nuanced experiences with care and healing.
This experience empowered Alyssa to foster a practice where patients are active leaders in their own healing process.
Alyssa joined Kaleidoscope Rx (then Spectrum Mental Health) in 2024 and continues to build lasting relationships with patients and provide holistic care tailored to each person’s needs. She is driven by her belief that mental health treatment should go beyond a deficit model and instead help people unlock the ability to heal and thrive. While medications are an important tool, Alyssa emphasizes that when patients feel heard, empowered, and understood, lasting transformation becomes possible.
Alyssa’s Kaleidoscope
"My kaleidoscope would include so much! The natural beauty of stormy skies over the ocean, desert sunsets, and the aurora borealis, along with man-made creations like lighthouses, graffiti, and cityscapes; I would also see beautiful images of humanity’s goodness—when people come together to help one another.”
